Adrenaline spikes
In more ways than one
Via a needle prick
And as a survival trick

There in the now
Already trained the how
Doing what had to be done
Showing up capable as Mum

Ambos on the way
Calm I had to stay
Brave for my little girl

Emotions wait

Patient patients
In chaotic space
Our hands embrace
Keeping occupied
As monitoring subsides

Buzzers
Steps
Rushing and slow
Medical staff on the go

Another allergy case
Extremely puffy face
A bee this time
During school lunchtime

And then another
Accompanied by an older brother
Cause unknown
For lips full-blown

Allergic reactions
The major attraction
On the emergency ward
Counted and scored
That day we had to stay

What the fuck
It’s not just bad luck
What’s the deal
Boggles the thinking reel

Tiny body covered with chords
To keep check of vital records
Collision of logic and emotions
Sets the healing in motion

Making the personal call
Tears start to fall
Past and present reveals
Future “what if” fears

No other choice
Says the inner voice
Knowing this is true
Doesn’t stop feelings turning blue
