Your article reminded me of someone I came across in a class online I took with EdX. Her name is Ashley Lucas and she wrote Doin’ Time Behind the Looking Glass.

The video we saw for the class highlighted some of the monologues she has created over the years based on real inmate’s families and their stories. Really powerful.

One that stands out is from a sister of an inmate who in the process of getting arrested for graffiti (which in his case should really have been referred to as fine art) had both his hands broken so badly he could no longer draw or paint.

Just wanted to share that your words reminded me of this. I am from Australia so not exposed to the same justice system, but there are strands that are recognisable in many systems around the world today.

Thanks for sharing your words.
